It's a budget version of the typical 50mm f1.8, packed in with some T-series cameras.  Optically, it's pretty much the same as the f1.8, except for a little stop-down baffle built in around the mid group, likely so Canon could use some leftover 1.8 elements with slightly goofy edge performance.
