Rental FAQ

HOW CAN I SIGN UP TO RENT EQUIPMENT?

To sign up for our rental program, you’ll need to fill out our rental application and contract forms and submit them with your ID at least 24 hours before picking up equipment. We can not reserve equipment for you until these forms have been submitted, so please plan ahead.

You’ll also need to bring along the following:

  1. One piece of current, valid government photo ID bearing your name and current address. This can be a driver’s license, BCID card, or another piece of government photo identification bearing the required information.
  2. One piece of official printed documentation confirming your name and current address. This can be your most recent monthly bank statement, a valid car insurance form, a current tax return, a current lease agreement, or another piece of official printed documentation bearing the required information.
  3. A valid credit or debit card, or cash, for a deposit.

The names and addresses on both pieces of documentation MUST match. If you’re not sure whether you have the correct identification, please contact us before coming in to rent equipment.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE?
Yes, you need to register to rent equipment and present identification in person at least 24 hours before picking up your equipment.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T DO THAT?
You will not be able to rent equipment.

DO I NEED TO LEAVE A DEPOSIT?
You need to leave a deposit if:

  • If this is your first time renting
  • If your identification is from outside British Columbia

HOW MUCH IS THE DEPOSIT?
It is $500.

CAN I USE SOMEONE ELSE'S CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD TO LEAVE A DEPOSIT?
If you want to use someone else's payment card, they will need to be present. We require authorized signatures on credit card pre-authorization slips. Be aware that the cardholder will be responsible for any charges or fees relating to the rental.

CAN I LEAVE A DEPOSIT WITH A CREDIT CARD OVER THE PHONE?
No.

CAN I LEAVE A DEPOSIT WITH A CREDIT CARD THAT IS NOT PHYSICALLY PRESENT?
No.

CAN I LEAVE A CASH DEPOSIT?
Yes, you can leave a cash deposit. The deposit will be refunded immediately as cash upon return of the equipment in good order.

CAN I LEAVE A DEBIT DEPOSIT?
Yes, you can leave a debit deposit. The deposit will be refunded immediately by cheque upon return of the equipment in good order. We are unable to refund directly to a debit card.

CAN I LEAVE A CHEQUE AS A DEPOSIT?
Unfortunately we are unable to accept cheques for deposits.

WHAT IS A PRE-AUTHORIZATION?
A credit card pre-authorization is not a charge, but it does block off a certain portion of the card for future charges. A pre-authorization does not show up on your bill as a charge and is not subject to interest. A pre-authorization for the total deposit amount is performed when you pick up your rental equipment, and will be cancelled or completed for the actual rental fee when you return the equipment complete and in good order.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A PRE-AUTHORIZATION TO CLEAR?
Pre-authorizations usually clear as soon as they are completed or cancelled.

WHAT DOES A "DAY" RENTAL MEAN?
Rentals may be picked up as early as store opening on the agreed-upon beginning of the rental term, and must be returned by 5PM the next business day.

WHAT DOES A "WEEK" RENTAL MEAN?
Rentals may be picked up as early as store opening on the agreed-upon beginning of the rental term, and must be returned by 5PM one week later. For example, a rental picked up on Thursday at 9:30AM must be returned the following Thursday by 5PM.

WHAT HAPPENS ON WEEKENDS?
We are closed Sundays and Mondays. Therefore, any equipment picked up on Saturday may be returned Tuesday by 5PM and will be charged as a single-day rental.

WHEN CAN I PICK UP THE EQUIPMENT I'VE RESERVED FOR RENTAL?
You can pick up the equipment you've reserved any time during our business hours on the day of your reservation.

CAN I PICK UP THE EQUIPMENT A DAY BEFORE MY BOOKED PICKUP DATE?
We can change pickup and return dates pending availability, but additional day rates will apply.

CAN I PICK UP OR RETURN RENTAL EQUIPMENT ON DAYS THAT YOU ARE NOT OPEN?
You can not.

CAN YOU MAIL ME RENTAL EQUIPMENT?
No. All rentals must be picked up in person at our physical location during business hours.

CAN SOMEONE ELSE PICK UP MY RENTAL EQUIPMENT FOR ME?
For security, we discourage sending anyone else to pick up equipment on your account. However, should it be necessary, please contact us ahead of time and we can make arrangements. We require a written, signed authorization for any third-party pickup. We will not release equipment to a third party without written and signed authorization.

WHEN CAN I RETURN THE RENTAL EQUIPMENT?
You can return the equipment any time during our business hours on the agreed-upon day of return.

CAN SOMEONE ELSE RETURN MY RENTAL EQUIPMENT FOR ME?
Yes- but make sure that you're sending it in with someone you trust to get it here on time and in good condition. If it is late or damaged in transit, you're still on the hook for the extra charges- even if it's your buddy's fault. Please make sure that the person bringing back your equipment knows that they will 

CAN I MAIL BACK THE RENTAL EQUIPMENT?
No.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT EVERYTHING IS WORKING WHEN I GET IT?
We check each piece of equipment to make sure that it is functional before you rent it. However, it is your responsibility to verify the contents of each rental outfit before taking delivery, and to ensure that all parts are present and in good order. By signing the rental form, you are acknowledging that you have taken delivery of a complete and functional outfit. The rental equipment must be returned in substantially the same condition as it was delivered.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE OR DAMAGE THE RENTAL EQUIPMENT?
You are liable for any and all repair and/or replacement costs for any equipment that you rent. This extends to any lost or damaged accessories. Any equipment not returned within 7 days of the agreed-upon end of the rental term will be considered lost. Any replacement costs assessed are due no later than 30 days after the agreed-upon end of the rental term, or the equipment will be considered stolen.

WHAT IF I DON'T RETURN A PORTION OF THE OUTFIT?
If you don't return a part of your rental equipment, replacement costs for the missing items will be assessed immediately. If you return the items within 7 calendar days, these charges will be refunded.

IF I BRING THE RENTAL EQUIPMENT BACK A FEW DAYS LATE, DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE EXTRA DAYS?
Yes you do.

IT TURNS OUT THAT I DIDN'T USE THE EQUIPMENT I RENTED, DO I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT?
Yes you do.

IT TURNS OUT THAT THE EQUIPMENT I RENTED WAS NOT QUITE RIGHT FOR THE JOB, DO I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT?
Yes you do. We're always happy to advise you on what equipment may be best for your needs, so please ask before you rent, and don't hesitate to ask for instruction if you're not sure how a piece of equipment works.
