Nippon Kogaku 8.5-25cm f4-4.5 Auto Nikkor Telephoto-Zoom
Nikon's very first zoom lens! Before the 70-200, before the 35-70, before the 43-86, there was this Nippon Kogaku 8.5-25cm f4-4.5 Auto Nikkor Telephoto-Zoom. This came out in 1959 and cost more than 5 grand in 2021 dollars. Is it any good? Yeah, it's not bad, for a zoom from 1959. Little bit soft, little bit of fringing. But still pretty decent, if you decide to shoot it. Cosmetic condition is good, with some paint and finish wear. Optics have a touch of haze in a centre element group; focusing and zoom action are smooth, and diaphragm is snappy. Probably more of a collectible than a user, but who says it can't be both?
